Recovered Materials

Ekman’s Recovered Materials Division will continue to be a major growth area in the Ekman Group and represents a key segment of our future business expansion.

With the introduction of new paper and board machines around the globe that utilize recovered fibers will continue to drive the demand in this segment. In addition, we anticipate the competitive dynamics to shift in the forest product industry, resulting in more paper mill closures in both North America and Europe. This will result in lower domestic consumption of waste paper and a need for export fiber markets.  The discounted paper segment provides a nice balance between prime white paper and recovered material grades which enables Ekman to offer a full range of services to our clients. Ekman Recycling has the knowledge, reputation and market leverage to ship over one million tons per year into these global markets.

A global market

Ekman continues to strengthen its domestic USA waste fiber business, while focusing on some key export markets and regions such as India, China, Korea, and South America. China is still the world’s largest consumer of recovered fiber and continues to leverage its volume for competitive prices. This buying behavior places increased global pressure on margins and pricing.
The competitive dynamics and grade structure in Europe is different from the US market.  By having a presence in both continents it allows Ekman to have trading flexibility during market shifts in prices and supply.

Ekman’s primary products within the Recovered Materials Division are wastepaper, plastics, metals, glass, paper stock lots, and residue.
